Why Does Honda Not Put Key Codes On Some Motorcycles And Scooters?

Posted by George on

The majority of Honda motorcycles and scooters in USA have key codes stamped on one or more locks, but not every Honda model is like this. Some models like the Honda Silver Wing scooter and Honda Reflex scooter don't have key codes anywhere on the bike. Why is this? I'm not sure, but I think it might have something to do with where the model is manufactured, or what lock manufacturer Honda used to supply locks and keys. Every new motorcycle and scooter sold in USA should include a key tag (see image below) with the key code stamped or written on the tag, or the key code is stamped on the original key.

It's always important when you buy a new motorcycle or scooter, regardless of the brand, to record the key code some where so you have it in case you loose your keys. A convenient place to write the key code is in the owners manual included with the vehicle.
