What to do if you lost your motorcycle key, and can't find your key code on the motorcycle

Posted by George on

Not every motorcycle will have a key code stamped on the locks, or anywhere else on the motorcycle, so what do you do if can't find a key code? Here are a few options:

1) If your motorcycle is only a few years old, you can try contacting your local motorcycle dealership and see if they can find the key code using the VIN. However, the older the motorcycle is the less likely your dealership has that information.

2) Check the owners manual to see if a previous owner wrote the key code in the manual.

3) Contact your local locksmith to see if they can make a key for you. Not every locksmith will work on motorcycles, but some do. If you find a locksmith that makes motorcycle keys, then you might receive a discount by bringing the motorcycle lock(s) or motorcycle to them, and avoid paying for a service call.

If all these options fail, there is still hope. We can make a key for most motorcycles and scooters by using the lockable gas cap and the ignition lock, but it does require removing these locks from the vehicle and shipping them to us. Which locks we need depends on the vehicle, so contact us first for that information. Also, we can provide this service at a greatly reduced cost even after adding in return shipping, so check with us first before having the work done locally. Turn over time is usually 1 to 2 business days.
